I’ve always been a storyteller sometimes with the written word and sometimes with my cameras. I love to highlight what makes people and places special. My passion is making connections with ideas and people. Growing up in rural south Georgia, I loved books and music. I’d sometimes drive 40 miles to buy an album and a copy of BillBoard Magazine. At Auburn University, I’d often be so engrossed in a Robert Ludlum thriller that I’d skip class.
Fast forward to 2019: I’ve spent my career as a travel writer for major magazines and as a travel and lifestyle photographer. Just before he departed for Beirut, Lebanon, to visit a woman he’d met in Paris earlier in the year, my son Connor and I decided to work on a cross-genre Southern YA romantasy/historical novel. The end result was Spellbound Under the Spanish Moss: A Southern Tale of Magic, which we completed during the pandemic. We launched June of 2020. He had come home to Marietta, Georgia, with the intention of going back to Beirut as soon as the airport opened again, which it did in July of that year. So, the remainder of our book launch was entirely virtual. In fact, any interviews have been virtual for the past four years. Connor and I were the opening speakers of the virtual Bluffton Book Festival in the Fall of 2021. Our book won awards, but more importantly, it won hearts. Jeanette Collins Onorati, an Emmy-nominated screenwriter, wrote the screenplay for Spellbound Under the Spanish Moss and is on to do the entire series. Connor finally returned home with his family from Beirut to Marietta, Georgia, in time for Christmas 2023. Now that he’s here we are doing a relaunch on Book 1. We plan to release the second book in the Spellbound Series in October 2025. Set in Puerto Rico, Fragrance of a Shadow: True Love and Other Legends, and the book following that one moves the action to New Orleans.
